The Second W: Who, What, Where, Why?

Okay, okay so the second W is actually a combo of four but let’s not get technical. It was during my time working at Shoal Bay that I stumbled across Marketing through one of my work colleagues (WHO).

Miss L (I will call her) was one super amazing co-worker and at the time she was studying a Cert IV in Marketing. While completing one of her assignments on one of our many but fleeting breaks between services, she needed ideas on how to promote a product and asked me for my thoughts about it. One thing lead to another and the next thing I knew, I had signed myself up to complete a Diploma in Business Marketing (WHAT).

As it was a full-time course and an hour away from the bay, I sadly said goodbye to the sand and sun and I picked up a casual role working as a Functions Attendant for The Wests Group (WHERE).

For the next two years, I worked almost every Friday and Saturday night and the odd shift during the week on various events such as Corporate Luncheons, Concerts, Fundraisers, Weddings, Birthdays, and more. Not only did I get to be a part of the catering and beverage side of events, but I also got a chance to learn what to do when setting up and packing down events. It was the best exposure to the event world I could have received because I got the opportunity to really see behind the scenes (WHY).
