It’s all about the small things
Remember how I mentioned the magic? Well for Weddings, the whole 24 hours for most people getting married is just that, magic. From a staff point of view and even still as an event coordinator, I find that it is somewhere during the ceremony and the reception where you get to experience these moments of magic.
For me, it is the small things. It is the look on the groom’s face when the bride first walks down the aisle or watching a room full of people all dressed to the nines go from laughing and being merry to then silently sobbing when the Father of the Bride stood up to give their speech.
Sometimes it’s the newlyweds taking to the dancefloor for their first dance and you catch a glimpse into the look of love exchanged between them and you are suddenly very aware of how lucky you were to witness that, especially when you are a complete stranger. Other times, it came from the boisterous and cheery chant of the ‘one more song’ as the evening draws to a close because the guests don’t want the night to end.
It is also in the acknowledgment and satisfaction that comes when you and the staff behind the scenes receive ‘compliments to the chef’ from the guests who have just enjoyed a hearty three-course meal or from the genuine smile from the Mother of the Bride when she shakes your hand and gives it a gentle squeeze and says thank you for making their child’s day perfect.
